Indian Defense Reform
Anit Mukherjee observes the need for Indian defense reform in an excellent opinion piece in the Times of India. Although a number of defense reforms were instituted after the 1999 Kargil War, Mukherjee writes that a key position- the ‘chief of defense staff’ – has not been created. Further, “defense planning and interagency coordination” are in need of attention. In short, Mukherjee suggests that India needs to meet these challenges today, rather than waiting for another crisis to motivate reform.
